This stoneware ceramic bowl was inspired by microscopic plant structures. Each circle has been individually made by hand and has a bark like texture. The circles have then been joined to create this striking vessel.
This piece was first fired to 1000 degrees Celsius. As I like my pieces to have a very organic natural feel I applied a soft wash of oxide before refiring it to 1200 degrees.
To finish the piece I hand gilded the centre of each circle with 24ct gold leaf. This creates the most beautiful luminosity and luxury.
It is a stunning centrepiece and casts subtle or striking shadows depending upon the light.
50cm in diameter.
