This piece was inspired by by microscopic plant structures. It opened up during the firing process. Rather than see this as a failure I was inspired by the Japanese technique of Kintsugi also known as kintsukuroi, "golden repair". As a philosophy, it treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise.
The bowl is 50cm in diameter and is constructed from a beautiful black stoneware and 24ct gold leaf. It is entirely made by hand and each piece is totally unique.
